Online employee surveys can be applied to various objectives. For instance data may be collected within customer or employee satisfaction surveys, change management, or personnel progress.
Upward feedbacks are particularly employed for personnel progress. Depending on how many feedback provider roles (e.g. colleagues, employees, superiors, customers) are incorporated into the survey process, a 90° to 360° feedback may be started. Executives receive feedback from different perspectives and are able to compare their self-perception to the perception of others in the report. Ideally, differences will then be discussed with a coach, who then will find the measures to take for the individual development.
Another type of employee survey is the trend indicator. Trend indicators are being used within the continuous improvement process (CIP) of a company. All employees are invited to answer a short survey containing about ten questions. At the end of the survey phase every employee receives the report of their department. In order to actively find improvement measures, the reports are being discussed on department level with the direct superior. In recurring surveys the success of implemented measures may be controlled.
The foundation of all employee surveys is an individual questionnaire, which contains business-related and goal-oriented questions. Surveys can be conducted multilingual, too.
Examples of dimensions, that are used in an employee survey:
Job situation
Process orientation
Leadership
Information / communication
Team work / colleagues
Advantages of an online implementation:
Online surveys are compared to paper processes very fast and cost-effective.
An evaluation of the results can occur automatically and immediately after the end of the survey phase. Error-prone, manual efforts are omitted.
